Srinagar, Sep 22 (KNO): The Trauma Care Centre at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kangan has been completed and is functioning round-the-clock to cater to trauma and emergency cases on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway, the government said in the Legislative Assembly.
The issue was raised by Kangan MLA Mian Mehar Ali through a starred question, seeking details about the government’s plans to augment or upgrade SDH Kangan into an Emergency and Trauma Referral Hospital in view of its strategic importance.
In its reply, the Health and Medical Education Department, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said the establishment of a Trauma Care Centre at SDH Kangan was sanctioned during 2007-08 under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for establishing trauma care facilities along National Highways.
The department said that under Government Order No. 235-HME of 2010 dated April 19, 2010, a total of 40 posts of various categories, including specialists, doctors, paramedics and other staff, were created for the Trauma Centre Kangan.
Against these sanctioned posts, 22 are presently in position, the government said.
Besides, 12 posts of doctors and paramedics have been provided under the National Health Mission (NHM) to further augment the manpower requirements of the centre.
The government said the Trauma Centre has been completed and made functional for catering to trauma and emergency cases on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway on a 24x7 basis.
